Social Cognitive Approach
Social
cognitive approach considers the unique way in which individuals acquire and
maintain behavior, while also considering the social environment in which
individuals perform the behavior. In this approach student is a empty box. And
teacher is the filler of this box. The theory takes into account a person's
past experiences, which factor into whether behavioral action will occur. These
past experiences influences reinforcements, expectations, and expectancies, all
of which shape whether a person will engage in a specific behavior and the
reasons why a person engages in that behavior.
Constructivist Approach
Constructivism
as a paradigm or worldview posits that learning is an active, constructive
process. The learner is an information constructor. People actively construct
or create their own subjective representations of objective reality. New
information is linked to to prior knowledge, thus mental representations are
subjective.
Cognitive Approach
The Cognitive Learning Theory explains why the brain
is the most incredible network of information processing and interpretation in
the body as we learn things. This theory can be divided into two specific
theories: the Social Cognitive Theory and the Cognitive Behavioral Theory.
Behaviorism Approach
Behaviorism
is an approach to psychology based on the proposition that behavior can be
researched scientifically without recourse to inner mental states. It is a form
of materialism, denying any independent significance for mind. Its significance
for psychological treatment has been profound, making it one of the pillars of
pharmacological therapy.
Turkish Education System
In Turkish educational system, the behaviorist approach
is the most ruling one. Education is viewed as discipline. Teacher is the only
source in this approach. Student is whatever the teacher is teaching to
student. Reward or punishment is the motivation behind learning. This approach is only concerned with
observable stimulus-response behaviors, and states all behaviors are learned
through interaction with the environment. This approach is being used in our
country but it's not a successful approach. Constructivist approach would be
more succesfull in our country because Constructivism
is where learners engage with the process. Learning is seen as creating meaning
from experience. Learners learn to collaborate, communicate, engage and be
active. It can be used for raising problem solving and critical thinking
students.
