CONSTRUCTIVISM: THE VIEW OF KNOWLEDGE THAT
ENDED PHİLOSOPHY OR A THEORY OF LEARNING AND INSTRUCTION
As we learned from our
classes, constructivism is a learner based teaching method. It doesn't rely on
memorizing it relies on learning from doing or experiencing. Constructivist
instruction focuses on how to generate rather than how to find. Researching is
a mandatory act that has to be done prior to creating. There are many resources
for research. Learners should be trained to scan information and use their
creativity.
One of the things that
draw my attention about constructivism is that, problem
solving teaches students to consider multiple perspectives on a given situation.
So in this scenario students can think outside of the box and can find solutions
in a way that others can't.
And
also traditional assessment is based on pen-and-paper tests whereby students
demonstrate or reproduce knowledge in the form of short responses and multiple choice
selection, which often inspire little personal engagement. Constructivist
assessment engages the students' initiative and personal investment through
journals, research reports, physical models, and artistic representations.
Engaging the creative instincts develops a student's ability to express
knowledge through a variety of ways. The student is also more likely to retain
and transfer the new knowledge to real life.
Students
also adapt learning to the real world, gaining problem-solving skills and
ability to do a critical analysis of a given set of data. These skills enable
the student to adapt to a constantly changing real world environment. Thus,
classroom learning does not result in only
acquisition of a canon of absolute truth it also results in a resource
of personal knowledge.
As a
future teacher and a student i am against memorizing. We are going to school to
learn, not to memorize the things i will not use in daily life or just to pass
exams. If i learn what they teach me at school i can always remember them with
a little mind refreshing. But if i just memorize it i probably will forgot it
and can't even remember it. So as a teacher i don't want my students do a
memorizing to pass my exams. I want them to learn what i teach them and use the
things i teach them not only in school but also in real life.
